New Main Station Features Revealed
Big changes are coming to the Round Lake Fire Department in 2018. After nearly 40 years in our current building, the Round Lake Hose Company will be tearing down our old main station and building a new one at the same location. The new facility will provide additional training areas, larger truck bays to accommodate modern fire apparatus, and separate gear and decontamination areas to prevent the spread of carcinogens to our members. The project is expected to begin in Mid-March with an anticipated move in date for the trucks of early November. Main station operations will be temporarily re-located to the old Stewartโs building on Round Lake Road and the Shared Station in Parade Ground Village.
One of the features of the new station will be a division of the facility between hot zones where gear and equipment will be allowed and cold zones where it will not. The goal is to limit the exposure of members to potential carcinogens. To assist this there will be a dedicated decontamination area with a gear washer and a separate training room off of the apparatus area. This will also allow us to conduct multiple simultaneous training sessions.
